Entry 4: Learning Process Reflection

I learned much through interacting with peer blogs in that I received honest perspectives that were so different from my own. Besides attempting to learn a second language in secondary school, I did not experience the hardships that can accompany such a task. I was unaware of the needs of my future students as well as the tools to help them succeed.   Hearing about my peers’ experiences helped me to put a face to a potential tool. For instance, Anali struggled with her pronunciation and therefore was hesitant to offer her insight to class discussions. I will remember her struggle forefront in my mind and will actively work to combat those feelings of embarrassment my future students may encounter. In my interview with Anali Martinez, I was introduced to distinct circumstances and setbacks that arose during her childhood and adolescence due to being a second language learner. Her mother language was Spanish and her Language learned after was English. Anali was introduced to English as a natural learner by her parents and family. She began learning English at home and then later received more of a mix learning environment including instructed learning. She learned English and Spanish during a critical period and was able to grasp both with differentiated help through school and socialization.
